BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) compiled a document containing the thoughts of the ITB Academics Multidisciplinary Team. This document served as follow-up to the directions of the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, TNI General (HOR) (Purn.) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, M.P.A. at the inauguration event "China-Indonesia Joint Research Laboratory for New Energy Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Technology," which took place on August 28, 2024
The aforementioned document, also called a white paper, was titled "Downstream Technology for National Industrial Development." It was relayed to the Kemenkomarves Office on September 19, 2024.
The ITB Rector, Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah, Ph.D., stated on October 17, "As we all understand, the development of national industry starts from the development of industrial resources, which cover (i) utilization of natural resources, (ii) development of human resources, (iii) advancement and utilization of industrial technology, (iv) development of creativity and innovation, as well as (v) provision of financial resources. As an institution enshrining Tridarma, ITB plays a significant role in the first four aspects required for the development of industrial resources.”
The white paper reviewed the potential role of ITB with its partners and networks in developing national industry, namely in the following sectors:
1. Developments in microelectronics-based electronics and internet
2. Developments in minerals processing
3. Developments in pharmaceutical and and medical device industries
4. Developments in water resources
5. Deveopments in steel, superalloy, and advanced steel alloy industries
6. Developments in military equipment and weapons systems
It is hoped that the contribution from the ITB Academics Multidisciplinary Team could be accepted by the Indonesian citizens and be realized by the new government, along with all stakeholders, for the sake of national development.
