BANDUNG, itb.ac.id—ITB student Roihan M. Iqbal, together with teammates Dio Hari Syahputra and Arya Ibrahim Marzuki, won third place in the Chandra Asri Limitless Innovation and Business Strategy Challenge (CALIBER), a business case competition held by PT Chandra Asri Pacific Tbk. This competition challenges participants to create innovative and sustainable business solutions, training young talents in analytical thinking, strategic thinking, and problem-solving.

This year’s CALIBER was themed “Turning Trash into Treasure: Sustainable Business Solutions for Plastic Waste,” in line with the company’s commitment to sustainability and combating plastic waste. CALIBER challenged participants to suggest innovative ideas on how to convert plastic waste into products with significant business, social, and environmental value.

This national-scale competition was attended by students from various universities in Indonesia. It consisted of two parts: the first being the proposal stage, followed by the presentation stage.

ITB’s team proposed “CIRC-M,” a holistic and innovative strategy aimed at accelerating the profitability and sustainability of Chandra Asri Group’s recycled plastic product, CIRCLO®. CIRC-M consisted of five main components: certification & licensing, industry collaboration, revenue sharing & financial model, catalog integration, and marketing & awareness. This strategy was designed to encourage the widespread adoption of CIRCLO®, creating sustainable income while also strengthening brand awareness in environmental sustainability.

“We wanted to encourage the mass use of recycled plastic products through a comprehensive strategy. We believed that CIRC-M would be a profitable business solution with a positive impact on the environment,” explained Roihan.

Taking part in this competition was a valuable experience for the team. “It was very fun, as we collaborated with friends from various academic backgrounds. This allowed us to expand our knowledge and abilities, ultimately creating an innovative business solution,” Roihan said.

The team also encouraged other students who wished to participate in similar competitions in the future not to be wary of collaborating with other majors. “Collaboration with friends from other majors was very helpful in enriching perspectives and generating innovative ideas. Multidisciplinary collaboration also added value for the judges,” Roihan stated.
