BANDUNG, itb.ac.id—The Engineering Physics Students Association Institut Teknologi Bandung (HMFT ITB) took first place in the Microblogging Indonesia Energy Transition Dialogue (IETD) 2021 held by the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR), Friday (24/09/21).
IETD 2021's theme was "Spirit of Encouraging Indonesia's Decarbonization Towards Carbon Emission-Free Status by 2050." One of the series of events, Ideathon 2.0, featured a number of competitions, one of which was microblogging.
"We Love EV Cars, But Public Transportation is Our Underrated Hero," was the title of the HMFT ITB team's project. This microblog can be accessed by following this link. The six members of the team, Nikita Galatia Siahaan, Michael Patrick A., Rafi Azzami, Mikha Hilliard, Fikri Athalariq, and Farhan A.I, are from HMFT ITB's Technology Studies (Techstud) division.
The project started with the development of a concept. Each team member delivered a breakdown of the different issues chosen for the IETD 2021 microblogging competition. Physical engineering, as the team’s educational background, is believed to be on the cutting edge of technical breakthroughs. One of the technologies related to the theme of this competition was electric vehicles.
The issue would be whether converting Indonesian citizens' vehicles to electric ones is the best way to overcome climate change. The HMFT ITB team then looked at simple changes in lifestyle that could have a major impact, such as cycling and taking public transportation.
"We then compared the two, which one is more effective and efficient, the government's investment in EVs and all of its infrastructure or public transportation? This was one of our thoughts to achieve this title," said Michael, one of the team members, to a reporter from the Communication and Public Relations Bureau.
The most difficult aspect of working on this microblog was combining information from many sources into a single, mutually sustaining reading material. To assist the construction of this microblog, literature studies from diverse news, articles, and papers were conducted.
The HMFT ITB team provides a few recommendations for creating microblogging, namely asking for other people's opinions, especially on the title and design. Furthermore, avoid using too much narrative in your microblog. Graphs and tables of relevant data can be reproduced as an alternative to the narrative overview provided.
