BANDUNG, itb.ac.id— Fresh graduates have three options in career-pursuing: self-employment, joint ventures, or becoming an employee themselves. The journey of self-employment usually starts from the management of a family asset. From there, many kinds of businesses can be established.

The second option is joint-venture. Understanding industrial development, external factors, and job opportunities are essential in launching a joint venture with others. It must be kept in mind that external factors are unchangeable while opportunities are constantly available depending on the person's decision.

The last option is signing up as an employee for a company. “In Indonesia, fewer people wish to pursue self-employment or joint ventures,” Ir. Kusmayanto Kadiman, Ph.D. stated during the grand opening of the HMFT Career Weekend on Friday (26/11/21). He is an alumnus ofPhysics Engineering Program of ITB and the Minister of Research and Technology in 2004-2009.

Technology advancement is one of the factors that encourage a nation's growth. Positioning itself on the front lines, ITB’s Physics Engineering Program provides all the necessities to ensure its expansion. Its courses are mostly general studies; thus, its career paths do not always end up as experts. Graduates can become entrepreneurs or politicians.

“We are active in the government so that we can make a roadmap of Indonesia’s current technology development,” Sondang Tiar Tampubolon, an alumnus of ITB Physics Engineering Program as well as a member of the DPR RI Parliament Commission VI, added.

The HMFT Career Weekend Virtual Exhibition lasted from 26-28 November 2021. On the first day, students of ITB Physics Engineering Student Association introduced the prospects of their major to the public through the X-Peria Festival. The festival is a virtual exhibition in KunstMatrix and Gather that presented the students’ final and practical assignments.

“The insight is needed because the explanation about physics engineering conveyed during the orientation program solely describes the preparations to enter the study program itself. In this event, the explanation is more focused on the prospects of this major," Dera, one of the visitors, commented. "This is especially helpful in encouraging us to study more.”

The X-Peria Festival had invited more than 25 speakers from the ITB Physics Engineering Program. Michael, who was one of the speakers for the ICODES Lab booth, recalled his experiences as a first-year student who was often confused about the differences between the laboratories provided.
“I would like to thank all committees for organizing this event. I hoped that the explanation mentioned today is clear, especially for the juniors,” he stated.
