BANDUNG, itb.ac.id — The East Java Chapter of Institut Teknologi Bandung Alumni Association (IA-ITB) presented a unique QR Art painting of ITB Rector, Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah, Ph.D., at the ITB CEO Summit 2024 held in the ITB East Hall on Thursday (22/8/2024). The presentation was made by Mutiara Ningrum, an alumna of the Master’s program in Architecture from the School of Architecture, Planning, and Policy Development (SAPPD) ITB.

This painting stands out not only as a piece of art but also for its distinctive concept, incorporating QR Art. Tiara, as she is commonly known, explained the initial idea of the painting. She emphasized that it was designed not merely as a display piece or decoration.

The artwork is intended to be connected with cutting-edge technology, specifically a digital footprint linked to Google Research. This piece is the result of a collaboration with the Kawoong Innovation Community, an organization fostering innovative works that integrate art, technology, and culture.

Tiara further explained that the painting was created by a Surabaya-based artist named Mr. D. Doddy Hernanto, who combines art with technology. The painting incorporates a coding algorithm that generates QR codes, which are ultimately integrated with Google Research. "The creation process was lengthy because we had to merge various codes to produce a specific image," she said.

The QR Art concept allows the painting to connect with the digital world through the QR codes embedded within it. Each QR code reveals related digital information or content.

The East Java ITB Alumni Association chose a portrait of the ITB Chancellor for the QR Art painting because she is the first female chancellor in ITB’s history. The selection of her portrait also holds significant meaning, as Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah is considered an inspiring leader who has brought positive changes to ITB. The painting is intended as both a tribute to her leadership and a source of motivation for the entire ITB academic community to continue innovating and creating.

"Hopefully, this painting will be recognized as one of the nation’s innovative works which developed and appreciated collectively to help enhance Indonesia’s reputation through ITB for the public," said the alumna of the ITB Master’s program in Architecture.

These sort of innovative works are expected to enrich Indonesia’s cultural heritage and boost ITB’s reputation on the international stage.
