IIARC 2011: ITB Also Wins National Flying Robot Contest

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Aerospace Engineering Student Association (KMPN) ITB in collaboration with Aeronautics and Astronautics Program Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FTMD) ITB held another flying robot contest named "Indonesian Indoor Aerial Robot Contest (IIARC) 2011 "for the fourth time. The contest, which has received recognition from the Japan Society of Aeronautics and Space Sciences (JSASS) was held on Tuesday to Wednesday (15-16/11/11) in the Multipurpose Building ITB.


The contest is held to develop the spirit of aviation in the community and consists of two stages, first stage is validation of the aircraft (to eliminate the unqualified aircrafts) and the second stage is the contest itself (the presentation and practice of flying the aircraft). A total of 33 teams from different regions take part in the contest, but only 22 teams are qualified from the validation stage. "The most distant team is come from Denpasar, Bali," added Yuhusa Setyo Nuswantoro (Aeronautics and Astronautics 2008) as chairman of the event, IIARC 2011.


The teams competing each other by flying the planes they made to cruise and drop the load to a predetermined target. At this year's contest most teams use cork, carbon, and balsa wood as raw material components of the aircraft with the radio up to the servo. "We use cork as a raw material because it is a cheaper option, although it can be easily damaged," said Maulana Sidik as a member of Team Mriya from SMA 2 Bandung.



Maulana also revealed that his participation in this contest based on the high curiosity and enthusiasm on the flying robot.

The results of this contest produces winners from each of three categories, namely: (1) RCS Aero Team (SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Sidoarjo) of secondary school category, (2) MASA # 1 Team (Bandung) from the general category, and (3) Garuda 1 Team (Maranatha Christian University) from the college category. In addition to the winners of all three categories, there are also awards for best presentation, unique design, and best pilots. Srikandi V2 plane of ITB Team (Inhuman Team) own award winning design with the most unique aircraft.
