International Women’s Day Special: A List of ITB Female Leaders

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id—The world celebrates International Women’s Day on March 8th every year. This year, we are celebrating with a particular theme; “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world.


Quoted from UN Women website, the chosen theme is a form of appreciation for women’s outstanding efforts towards a better, more equal future and COVID-19 recovery worldwide.

A lot of women at ITB have been given big responsibilities to lead and run their own roles. Here is a list of great women from ITB who have been carrying duties in serving as great leaders, from chancellor to dean.

1. Prof Reini Wirahadikusumah, Ph.D.

Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah, Ph.D is a professor majoring in Management and Construction Engineering Expertise, Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering (FTSL) ITB. From year 2020, in which ITB is having the 100th anniversary, she started her position as the chancellor, marking the first women ever in ITB to be serving the role.

Born in Jakarta, she earned her bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from ITB in 1991, her master degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University, USA, in 1996, and her PhD degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University, USA, in 1999.

2. Dr. Ir. Gusti Ayu Putri Saptawati S., M.Comm.

Also known as Bu Putri, Dr. Ir. Gusti Ayu Putri Saptawati S. M.Comm is serving as ITB’s Vice Chancellor for Resources from year 2020 until 2025. She is also a Software Engineering and Knowledge lecturer at School of Electrical and Informatics Engineering (STEI) ITB.

She earned her bachelor degree back from ITB in 1989, her master degree from The University of New South Wales, New South Wales, Australia, in 1993, and finally, her doctoral degree from ITB in 2003.

3. Endah Sulistyawati, S.Si., Ph.D
Endah Sulistyawati, Ph.D is a dean at School of Life Sciences and Technology (SITH) ITB, serving from year 2020-2024. She is a Forestry Technology lecturer. Started her bachelor degree at ITB in 1993, she then earned her doctoral degree from The Australian National University, Canberra, Australia in 2002.

4. Dr. Sri Maryati, ST., MIP.
Dr. Sri Maryani is a dean at ITB’s School of Architecture, Planning and Policy Development (SAPPK). She is given the role to run started from 2020 until 2024.

An Infrastructure System lecturer herself, she finished her bachelor degree from ITB back in 1996, her master degree from University of Stuttgart, Germany, in 1999, and finally her doctoral degree from ITB in 2009.

There are more great women from ITB with their strengths and specialties, making their own remarks along the path. From this article, we can conclude that women have the same chance to ace their career as men do, while at the same time having their role as mothers. We are sending an infinite amount of appreciation and honor to all women out there.
