ITB and KIGAM Sign MoU for Mineral Resources Research Collaboration and Establishment of Joint Research Center

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) have formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) covering seven research and resource-related fields. The signing ceremony took place in the Rapim A Room of the ITB Rectorate on Tamansari Street No. 64, Bandung, on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.

The MoU was signed by ITB's Rector, Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah, Ph.D., and the President of the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources, Mr. Pyeong Koo Lee.

Prof. Reini expressed her optimism about this collaboration, as both ITB and KIGAM share a common goal: benefiting society through innovative research. She highlighted the long history of partnership, shared interests in resources, and the commitment to research collaboration that binds the two institutions.

"Your presence here today signifies the importance of our shared commitment to advancing scientific research and innovation for the betterment of our societies," Prof. Reini remarked. She expressed her hope that this collaboration would be a fruitful one, marked by growth, invention, and success.

Mr. Pyeong Koo Lee extended his gratitude to Prof. Reini and her team for their warm reception of KIGAM's representatives. He mentioned that a meeting had taken place between him and a few ITB representatives in South Korea in August 2023, preceding the signing of the MoU.

Mr. Lee expressed his desire for this collaboration to continue expanding, similar to the partnerships forged between governments or companies.

The MoU between ITB and KIGAM encompasses various areas, including joint research in mineral resources and circular resources, exploratory research collaboration and mineral mining, joint research related to extractive metallurgy technology, and research in energy and crude oil exploration and mining.

In addition, the agreement includes the establishment of a joint research center, the initiation of a program for researchers and academics exchange, and the exchange of information about the interests of both institutions.
