ITB Confers Honorary Doctor Degree to M. Jusuf Kalla

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) held Ceremony for Conferment of Honorary Doctor Degree to M. Jusuf Kalla on Monday (1/13/2020) at Aula Barat of ITB, Jalan Ganesa no. 10, Bandung. M. Jusuf Kalla, the 10th and 12th Vice President of Indonesia, receives Honorary Doctor Degree for innovations he has created to enhance productivity of a system, either a company or an institution of public and government sectors.

Head of promoter team, Prof. Dr. Ir. Abdul Hakim Halim, M.Sc said ITB has this policy of conferring Honorary Doctor Degree with the aim to encourage people of Indonesia to make achievements and contributions for science, technology, and arts.

It is conveyed by Prof. Abdul Hakim that the Honorary Doctor Degree is conferred to persons who have innovative works, have original and fundamental ideas, researches, or development of concepts which have proven to bring benefits to communities, to development of nation’s culture, and to development of science and arts.

“Based on his innovative works, his track records, and his wisdom, as well as the regulation listed in the Decree of Academic Senate of ITB number 43 / SK / K01-SA / 2003 that stipulates recipients of Honorary Doctor Degree, the promoter team concluded and believed that M. Jusuf Kalla deserves to receive Honorary Doctor Degree from ITB in the field of Productivity,” Prof. Abdul Hakim explained during the promoter’s address.

The Honorary Doctor Degree for M. Jusuf Kalla is the 14th conferred by ITB. During the occasion, M. Jusuf Kalla also delivered a scientific speech titled “Promoting Productivity, Enhancing Nation Prosperity”.

“In this opportunity, I would like to tell the academic society of ITB to never stop making and spreading innovations. You are all the best generations of this country. You are the locomotive of progress, and this country hopes for ITB’s great role as initiator and motor of improvement of productivity,” Jusuf Kalla said during his speech.

Rector of ITB Prof. Dr. Ir. Kadarsah Suryadi, DEA., said the conferment of Honorary Doctor Degree has significant meaning for ITB, especially because it is given to one of the best individuals in Indonesia who has dedicated his life for the progress and prosperity of people of Indonesia.

In his remark, Prof. Kadarsah said Indonesia will receive demographic bonus in 2030-2040 where population in productive ages (15-64 years old) is greater than population in unproductive ages (under 15 years old and above 64 years old).

Regarding the demographic bonus, he said we need to prepare everything so that most population in productive ages are not merely potential but are actual population with high productivity. “I hope the conferment of Honorary Doctor Degree to Dr. (HC) M. Jusuf Kalla marks the beginning of national productivity movement to prepare for demographic bonus,” he said.
