JATINANGOR, itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) held a welcoming ceremony for new students for the 2024/2025 Academic Year Semester I on Saturday  (17/8/2024) at the ITB Football Field, Jatinangor Campus.

The Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs (WRAM) of ITB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jaka Sembiring, M.Eng., also greeted the new students warmly. “Welcome to ITB, one of the best campuses in Indonesia. Congratulations on becoming part of ITB’s academic community, a distinguished group with a long history within the Indonesian nation. Congratulations on your journey as students, preparing yourselves for a bright future,” he said.

For the 2024/2025 academic year, Prof. Jaka noted that 4.734 new students enrolled in the Bachelor’s program, 1.373 in the Master’s program, 130 in the Doctoral program, and 196 in the Professional program, which includes the Pharmacist and Engineering professions. These students have successfully completed the selection and registration processes, and will be continuing their studies across various faculties and schools at ITB.

In addition to domestic students, ITB also welcomes international students from various countries, supported by the Republic of Indonesia Government Scholarship programs, namely the Developing Country Partnership Scholarship (KNB) and The Indonesian Aid Scholarship (TIAS). This year, 10 students in the Bachelor’s program, 29 in the Master’s program, and 3 in the Doctoral program were accepted through these scholarship programs. These students are currently in the process of re-registration and preparation to come to Indonesia.

Prof. Jaka emphasized the crucial role students play in sustaining and advancing ITB’s legacy. He reminded them that being an ITB student is not only about achieving academic excellence but also about developing into leaders who can inspire and effect positive change in their communities. ITB undergraduates, who represent the top 0.625% of over 800.000 participants in the National Selection for New Student Admissions (SNPMB), are expected to contribute significantly to the progress and welfare of Indonesian society.

Prof. Jaka also underscored the importance of student attitudes and behavior during their studies at ITB. He explained that being a student marks a transitional phase from adolescence to adulthood. Maturity is reflected not only in age but also in the actions and responsibilities one takes. Students must manage their time effectively, demonstrate integrity, and engage actively in both academic and non-academic activities. Moreover, ITB students must show respect towards lecturers, educational staff, and fellow students, as these qualities are fundamental to future success.

Prof. Jaka concluded by stating that the future of ITB and Indonesia greatly depends on the contributions of its students as pioneers. “Be someone who brings benefits, eases the way for others, and is always eager to learn. Cultivate an innovative spirit to address the challenges that Indonesia will face in the future,” he said.
