ITB Entrepreneurship Challenge 2010: Building the Spirit of Entrepreneurship amongst Students

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - The spirit of entrepreneurship plays a crucial role in the world of business and economy nowadays. It is even emphasized by the government and intellectual parts of the society that the spirit of entrepreneurship needs to be built early on as a foundation in the future to create wider job field with the innovation-based business climate.
Students, as the backbone of reformation in the future, are a part of the society that is seen necessary to prepare themselves with the spirit of entrepreneurship. Students are challenged to create their own job fields with innovative methods and ideas. The preparation of the spirit of entrepreneurship needs to be done early because it is one of the most significant contributions to national development.

The benefits of the spirit of entrepreneurship that is built early will be felt in the future. With a good preparation, students are hoped to be able to open up new job fields so that reformists are no longer just look for but rather create job fields. The spirit to create must also be complemented with useful innovations so that the business world will be able to compete and provide good climate of investment for investors.

IEC 2010: Accommodating the Preparation of Entrepreneurship Spirit

Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), as a public institution under the Education Department of Indonesia, welcomed the governmental program to build the entrepreneurship spirit well. One of the best ways to build the particular spirit is by holding seminars and business ideas competition.

ITB Entrepreneurship Challenge 2010, with the theme of 'Painting a Smile on The Face of Indonesia' is one of the methods in preparing the spirit of entrepreneurship amongst students in national scale.
"The aim of the whole event is to support entrepreneurship activities students are having," explained Dhea, a student of ITB School of Business and Management, as the coordinator of IEC 2010 competition division.

IEC 2010 focused on National Students Business Idea Competition which was a competition aimed to create the spirit of entrepreneurship and find potential young entrepreneurs amongst students. The registration was opened January 18th, 2010, and ended February 8th, 2010.

The IEC 2010 Itinerary

The whole event is going to be open through an early seminar themed 'Entrepreneurs from Various Backgrounds' in February 20th, 2010, which would invite acclaimed and successful entrepreneurs throughout Indonesia. The seminar is hoped to be able to create and build the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation. After the seminar, IEC 2010 will hold a second seminar themed 'Entrepreneurs in the Community Development Context' which would be held on April 17th, 2010.

Aside from the seminars, the 20 top teams from the Business Idea Competition will get the chance to participate in an 'Entrepreneurship Camp' in which there would be trainings, games and field studies. After that, a shortlist of 10 teams are going to compete in the climax event of IEC 2010 in a Gala Dinner where the teams will have the chance to present their business ideas in front of invited investors.

This event, where a total of Rp. 47.500.000 will be fought over, is one of the ways to reawaken and refresh innovative ideas throughout Indonesian students. "With IEC 2010, it is hoped that students would be incentivized to become entrepreneurs and share their entrepreneurship knowledge with others," Dhea stated.
