ITB, GEM, and CSU Collaborate to Develop Laboratory in New Energy Materials Technology and Metallurgy

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Central South University (CSU) and GEM on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at the ITB Rectorate Building, Jalan Tamansari, Bandung. The event was attended by Minister of Health, Ir. Budi Gunadi Sadikin, CHFC., CLU. The collaboration aims to establish a joint laboratory focusing on new energy materials technology and metallurgy.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by ITB's Rector, Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah, Ph.D., Vice Rector for Finance, Planning, and Development, Prof. Ir. Muhamad Abduh, M.T., Ph.D., Chancellor of Central South University, Prof. Yi Hong, Chairman of GEM, Prof. Xu Kaihua, and Assistant General Manager of GEM, Dr. Xu Pengyun.

Prof. Reini expressed enthusiastic support for the collaboration, emphasizing its potential to benefit Indonesia-China relations and advance the industrial sector. She highlighted the positive impacts expected from the partnership for ITB and Indonesia as a whole.

The collaboration follows up on the initial agreement signed on November 6, 2023, focusing on scholarships, joint collaborations, technology exchange, and knowledge sharing. The joint laboratory, to be developed at ITB's Jatinangor Campus, will concentrate on research in renewable energy materials, valuable mineral exploration, green energy initiatives, and the promotion of Indonesia's mining sector.

Prof. Yi Hong and Prof. Xu Kaihua echoed Prof. Reini's sentiments, expressing optimism about the positive impact of the collaborative laboratory program on Indonesia-China relations. They emphasized its potential to produce outcomes beneficial to industries in Indonesia and hailed it as one of the finest partnerships between the two countries.

Minister of Health Ir. Budi Gunadi Sadikin, CHFC., CLU., highlighted the significance of the collaboration in exploring Indonesia's natural resources and energy sources, particularly renewable energy. He underlined the potential of renewable energy advancements in various sectors, including healthcare and medical fields, to contribute to Indonesia's economic growth.

The collaboration marks a significant step towards fostering scientific and technological cooperation between Indonesia and China, with a focus on addressing global challenges in the field of energy and metallurgy.
