BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – The Get This Look! team that consists of one ITB student emerged as the national champion of L’Oréal Brandstorm 2021. Together with Alea Najla (Computer Science, Bina Nusantara University) and Veronica Lila (Business, Prasetiya Mulya University), Giselza Satya Kusmaharani, who is currently a Class 2020 student at the School of Pharmacy, won first place of the interuniversity competition after going through the presentation stage on 8 April 2021.

L’Oréal Brandstorm 2021 raised the theme of “Invent the Beauty Shopping Experience Through Entertainment” to explore the e-commerce’s capacity in the cosmetics industry. “This competition follows the same philosophy of L’Oréal: innovation, entrepreneurship and excellence in creating a universal beauty. Based on its theme and our hobby of watching Korean drama, we had an idea of creating an application that allows users to shop through their inclinations towards the looks of characters from Korean drama,” Giselza explained.

With the application, both movies and beauty enthusiasts are able to watch while searching for information. When the characters’ faces are clicked, the platform will direct its users to the Get This Look! application so that they can shop for the products used by said characters.

“We noticed most applications cater to fashion while we focus more on beauty and make-up. Our application suggests alternative shades and prices to accommodate its user’s necessity. It also has a virtual try-on feature called Try This Look! to view the look’s compatibility with the user’s face. Another goal of this application is to reduce stress during the pandemic by promoting self-love. The user’s confidence can be elevated with the Share Your Look! feature where they upload their pictures with the applied looks,” she continued.

The team competed with approximately 1,500 participants in the competition. “We came from different universities so there have been several issues regarding schedules, time management with our academic studies, and discussions that cannot be conducted directly. We have to make use of technology for our online meetings,” Giselza mentioned.

Currently, the Get This Look! team is striving to realize and develop their idea via mentoring and research. They are also trying to broaden the references used in the application with other movie types like Hollywood, Bollywood, and anime.

“We do not hope much but we kept on praying and trying so that Get This Look! can be used by everyone in the world. We also want to inspire people through our invention that age is not the limit of imagination. Besides, we hope that the users’ confidence and self-love can be boosted using our application,” she added.
