ITB Retains the Title of Overall Champion in Indonesia Students Mining Competition

BANDUNG,itb.ac.id - The nationwide Indonesia Students Mining Competitions 8 (ISMC) ended on Sunday (12/02/2012). 15 teams from colleges across the nation participated in 14 branches of competitions, and ITB succeeded in retaining its position as the overall champion, while Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (UNLAM) and Universitas Sriwijaya Palembang (UNSRI) won the second and third place respectfully. From 14 competitions, ITB won nine gold medals, one silver, and one bronze medal, while UNLAM won two golds, two silvers, and four bronzes. The third champion, UNSRI, won one gold, three silvers, and three bronzes. The other two gold medals went to Universitas Hasanuddin (UNHAS) in the fifth place while Universitas Pembangunan Negeri (UPN) won fourth place with tree silvers and two bronzes.
As well as intervarsity competitions, ISMC also held an internal Panning Competitions for ITB students from Faculty of Mining and Petroleum Engineering's programs and classes. Material engineering students won the for the students' association category while students from Faculty of Mining and Petroleum Engineering class 13 won the faculty category.

ISMC is Mining Students Association of iTB (HMT-ITB)'s main program and it has been held since 1996. This year, the theme is "Mining for Living." Ananda Putra Prathama said that this year's theme is  chosen to reflect the profound importance of mining industry for humanity. "We think the mining industry needs to be developed more to sustain Indonesia's prosperity."

ISMC started with a series of pre-events, including roadshows to colleges and high schools across Indonesia, a seminar, and a one day course. The sminar and course, themed "Acid Mine Drainage Management" was held in cooperation with international researchers associations: International Network for Acid Prevention (INAP) dan International Network for Acid Drainage (INAD).

"The main event of ISMC, the competitions themselves, took place in ITB's Mining Engineering buildings in three days (10-12/02/12)," said Ade Ivung Reveles Elsyamba, the committee's Head of the Public Relations department. During the event, an exhibition, aimed to introduce the mining industry to the public, is also held. Winners are announced in the closing event, ISMC NITE, where students from all over Indonesia gathered and socialized with the accompaniment of art and music performances.
