“Executives and academics of Institut Teknologi Bandung expressed the deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to the victims of earthquakes and tsunami in Donggala, Palu, and surrounding areas,” said ITB’s Vice Rector of General Administration, Alumni and Communication, Dr. Miming Miharja, ST., M.Sc.Eng.

A magnitude 7.4 followed by tsunami hit Palu and Donggala, Central Sulawesi on Friday (28/9/2018). Hundreds were killed and injured due to hit from collapsed buildings and tsunami wave. “We pray for the victims and seek to assist them with their urgent needs,” Miming stated in a press release.

ITB’s Director of General Administration, Dra. Binarti Dyah Pertiwi M.H, attributes the aid to the contribution of many. “ITB is preparing clean water supply, prototype of earthquake resistant house, early warning system, and disaster mitigation,” she said.

Soon, expertise aid will come. “Hopefully soon we can present geospatial data to those in need,” said Prof. Ketut Wikantika from Remote Sensing and Geographical Information System Research Group in a meeting at CRCS Building of ITB. Expertise aid will be managed by ITB’s Institute for Research and Community Services (LPPM) as rehabilitation efforts in Palu, Donggala, and surrounding areas.
