ITB University Library Improves Services through ACS on Campus Program

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id—In order to improve access and services towards e-resources in ITB, the University Library teamed up with the nonprofit organization American Chemical Society (ACS) as the e-journal database provider for the chemistry field of ACS Publications (https://pubs.acs.org/). This event was held during the ACS on Campus Program program (http://acsoncampus.acs.org/) via online on Tuesday (2/8/2022).

The ACS on Campus Program is an interactive session which provides the best tips from ACS editors regarding scientific communication, peer review, and research features. The ACS on Campus Program at ITB also presented 4 speakers: (1) Dean of School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University Sains Malaysia & Associate Editor, Journal of Chemical Information & Modeling Prof. Habibah A. Wahab, (2) Department of Chemistry, City University of Hong Kong & as Associate Editor, Inorganic Chemistry Prof. Kenneth Kam-Wing Lo, (3) Editorial Advisory Board Member, Journal of Chemical Education Dr. Fung Fun, and (4) Senior Customer Success Specialist, CAS Ms. Pamela Oon.

This event was hosted by Customer Success Manager, CAS Mr. Adrant Ling and was attended by participants both from inside and outside of ITB. It was opened by the ITB Chair of Institute for Research and Community Services Dr. Eng Yuli Setyo Indartono. Yuli hoped that this collaboration could continue because it could help and support the ITB academic community in understanding research publication activities, especially within the scope of ACS publishers.

The first speaker was Prof. Habibah A, who presented a speech with the theme “Peer Review: An Introductory Guide”, which discusses the importance of peer review in the process of publishing manuscripts/journals.

The second speaker was Prof. Kenneth Kam-Wing Lo who discussed the next process of published manuscripts under the theme “Cultivating Your Scientific Presentation Skills”. The third speaker was Dr. Fung Fun Man who talked about the ability to empower diverse teams with the theme “Advancing Scientific Leadership through Chemical Education. "

During this opportunity, the University Library also delivered materials related to Library Resources, which was presented by the ITB University Library Head of Library Services and Scientific Literacy Yoka Adam Nugrahaa, S.Sos. Yoka opened his speech by introducing the profile of the ITB Library and a general view of the users it serves at ITB.

Next, Yoka explained about the journals and electronic books that became subscriptions at ITB, ways to access and ethics regarding searching that should be considered, local ITB content provided at the University Library, namely the Digital Library (Digilib) and the ITB Web Public Access Catalog (WebPAC) library information system. Yoka also explained about reference management and the use of data visualization to increase productivity in the process of writing research results.

ACS on Campus Program activities are useful in order to provide more support towards ITB academics in understanding research publication activities, especially within the scope of ACS publishers. From this activity, both parties ACS and ITB University Library hope that cooperation can be well established and can be improved towards the use of the ACS database for ITB academics.
