BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – The advance in digital technology encouraged the popularity of metaverse use in Indonesia. Private corporations and state-owned enterprises have employed metaverse for various significant businesses.
The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandia Uno, shared about the utilization of metaverse by a handful of banks to run their businesses, including a virtual banking office. PT Telkom Indonesia (Telkom) also expressed its interest in creating a virtual mall in the metaverse named Metanesia.
The government is also keeping tabs on the development of this virtual technology by designing a metaverse version of the new capital city. Hopefully, the public can taste the early environment of this new capital through the metaverse.
The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy also published his own work in the metaverse called Wonderverse Indonesia. Users can interact with each other and enjoy the metaverse version of Indonesian beauty.
“Wonderverse Indonesia allows us to explore the wonders of Indonesia, a result of technology, culture, natural splendor, and creative economy in collaboration,” remarked Sandiaga on “The 7th International Conference on Management in Emerging Market (ICMEM) 2022)” held online on Wednesday (10/8/2022). This year, ICMEM traversed the metaverse as a future technology in the field of business and management for the market of developing countries. In addition, Sandiaga asserted that digital economics will become a new power for Indonesian economics. At the moment, Indonesia is placed first in digital economics development among many other Southeast Asian countries.
The Internet-based economy in Indonesia has cumulated a value of USD 70 billion. The value is estimated to reach USD 146 billion by 2025. “Meanwhile, the value of the digital investment in Indonesia makes up 38.7% of the total digital investment in Southeast Asia,” informed Sandiaga.
At the event, ITB’s Rector, Reini Wirahadikusumah, expressed how today’s citizens increasingly interact with digital technology. This in no way exempts ITB from continuously learning and applying the metaverse for education.
“The infrastructure for this developing, digital technology is in progress so that the metaverse’s presence will not surprise us later,” stated Reini. The ICMEM 2022, in Reini’s opinion, helped many in understanding the metaverse better. This is necessary during the Covid-19 pandemic to increase internet-usage habits.
