BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), in collaboration with the Indonesia Jazz and Blues Club, hosted Jazz Aula Barat #8 at the West Hall of ITB’s Ganesha Campus on Saturday evening (15/2/2025). This event aimed to popularize jazz among the general public.

The theme of this year's Jazz Aula Barat was "Jazz Innovations". The event’s curator, Imelda Rosalin, explained that the concept of innovation emphasized new ideas in the creative process, focusing not only on music as a product. To reflect this, the event featured jazz musicians from different generations, including Oele Pattiselano, who performed a duet with his student Tiyo Alibasjah, accompanied by Imelda Rosalin (piano), Ezra Manuhutu (double bass), and Augustinus (drums), as well as a performance by Nenden Shintawati. Also present was Ardhito Pramono, a young musician known for his retro-style music with a contemporary touch.

The concert featured more than 20 songs, each with a unique character. ITB students from ITBJazz, Apres, and Paduan Suara Mahasiswa (PSM) opened the event with their Gen-Z-infused musical energy. Then, ITB Jazzification - a vocal group composed of PSM ITB alumni - performed arrangements of popular songs and Brazilian jazz with ITB's signature style.

West Java's acting governor, Bey Machmudin, praised the event. "This concert further enriches West Java's arts and culture ecosystem, while reinforcing Bandung's status as a center of creativity and innovation," he said.

Jazz Aula Barat is a national jazz event initiated by the late Riza Arshad (Ija) in 2013. The concert serves as a platform that balances intellectual and academic life with music, harmonizing logic and emotion.

The event also featured the Jazz Aula Barat Award, which recognizes contributions to jazz music. In 2025, the award was presented to jazz philanthropist MS Hidayat and renowned guitarist Oele Pattiselano, a key figure in Indonesian jazz history. ITB Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara, M.T., personally presented their awards.

Adding to the excitement, Jazz Aula Barat #8 also marked the soft launch of the ITB Art Market, an iconic Bandung event since 1972. The ITB Art Market Pre-Event "Synesthesia" will officially kick off the 2025 ITB Art Market series this coming April.
