BANDUNG, itb.ac.id- Students of Fine Arts major returned to exhibit their annual routine creations. The academic exhibition showcases students' proficiency in conducting image analysis. The exhibition was conducted in East campus center.

"The creations showcased in the exhibition is the creation of students during Image Analysis class. In the class, students learn to explore materials to achieve unique characteristics when developed into products," explained Mega Saffira, Fine Arts 2009, as exhibition coordinator.

Every product has one theme that would then become the foundation in design process, materials choosing, to the determining of packages so that the result would have strong identities. For Mega, that chose a futuristic theme, the total duration needed to finish the product is one semester.

The initial step in designing a product is pattern or motive exploration. Mega explained, "At first, we gather fifty motives that can be associated with the theme. These motive would then be the foundation in the product development." A motive isn't just a two-dimensional media. Three-dimensional ones like an ugly box can also be a motive, she continued.

After motives are gathered, the professor, Kahfiati Kadar, would give inputs as to what motives can be developed into products. Motives that start out simple such as a piece of cloth dipped in mud, an old paper box, to dried leaves can be magically transformed into valuable products such as gowns, bags, and shoes.

Some creations started out small, then they develop into elegant pieces of arts. A good example of this would be a product themed Dim Evening. The product started out as some useless dried leaves with some pints of gold. They were then put together in smart details and transformed into artistic lamps and beautiful bags. The art of transforming junks into high-value products is the heart of the process.

All creations exhibited have their own uniqueness and identity. Students have shown that they possess a professional-level creativity, reflected in their ability to artistically explore the beautiful sides of everything in their own respective creations.
