BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - On Saturday (25/04/09) Geophysics Students Association of Indonesia (HMGI) conducted a one day course on the Basics Technical on Reflection Seismic Data Interpretation for oil and gas exploration, took place at East Campus Center ITB. Presented as the speakers were Nurhasan (representatives of the Hess Indonesia) and Asep Samsul Arifin (Planning exploration Pertamina EP). This course attended by 30 students from various universities such as University of Padjajaran and the Bandung Institute of Technology itself.
The first speaker, Asep Samsul Arifin, give a review on Fundamental Concept of Seismic Interpretation. In general, Asep share interpretation seismic data into three main stages such as the process of the preparation of seismic data, the process of interpretation, and results interpretation. Asep emphasizes the process of interpretation as the most important. As an interpreter, many points that must be handeld such as interpretation purpose, the condition of geological interpretation, interpretation equipments, the latest technology on interpretation, and the time allocation that is required during the process of interpretation. For training, Asep distribute materials and process engineering interpretation using basic map. Case study was also done on the field Melandong, Indonesia.

Next, Nurhasan discussed on Synthetic Seismogram. Synthetic Seismogram is direct method used to model the properties in the earth using seismic data. This data is used to identify oil and gas reservoir.

This one day course is addressed to the students in order get closer to the exploration for oil and gas latest technologies that is developing in oil and gas company. "Most of the students showed up are the third year students." Said one of the committee. "What is clear that things like this can not be obtained during lectures."
