BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Driven by a spirit of social responsibility and devotion, recipients of the BAZNAS (National Amil Zakat Agency) Scholarship from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) organized the "Pesantren 1000 Cahaya Ramadan" program at Ikhlasul Amal Orphanage, Pasirlayung, Bandung City. Held on Thursday (March 20, 2025), the event aimed to foster a sense of togetherness and enhance the quality of prayers for the orphanage children during Ramadan.
Pesantren 1000 Cahaya Ramadan: An Islamic-Based Social Initiative
"Pesantren 1000 Cahaya Ramadan" is part of a nationwide movement initiated by BAZNAS Scholarship recipients across 162 campuses in Indonesia. The program is designed to promote social awareness, strengthen Islamic education, and support basic learning and social empowerment for children in need. At ITB, this initiative was carried out through various interactive activities with the orphanage children.
Chief organizer Muhammad Ghalum Gumilang (Ocean Engineering, 2021) highlighted the importance of ongoing collaboration in nurturing the children’s growth. "We hope that through this event, we can open doors for broader cooperation and strengthen the bond between ITB students and Ikhlasul Amal Orphanage," said Ghalum.
As the time for iftar (breaking the fast) approached, the event was enlivened by a quiz competition participated in by orphanage children from junior high to high school levels. Divided into five teams, the participants competed in answering questions related to Islamic teachings and general knowledge. The engaging and competitive atmosphere made this session one of the most anticipated parts of the event.
Prizes were awarded to the competition winners just before iftar, marking one of the program’s highlights. ITB students and orphanage children then gathered for a meal in a warm and joyful atmosphere. Following the iftar, the event officially concluded with a congregational Maghrib prayer, followed by a brief rest and casual interactions between the students and children.
By organizing "Pesantren 1000 Cahaya Ramadan" at Ikhlasul Amal Orphanage, ITB students receiving the BAZNAS Scholarship hope this initiative serves as a stepping stone for larger social programs in the future. The success of this event demonstrates that the spirit of compassion and togetherness can be transformed into meaningful actions, benefiting those in need while strengthening ukhuwah Islamiyah (Islamic brotherhood) during the blessed month of Ramadan.
