SURABAYA — A student team from the School of Business and Management at Institut Teknologi Bandung (SBM ITB), known as Team Marsha, secured Second Place at the International Development Student Conference (IDSC) held by the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), on November 7, 2025.

Team Marsha consists of Rasikha Zafiraliya, Darrell Rayyan Sanyoto, and Ahmad Zaki, students of the Management Study Program at SBM ITB, Class of 2026. The national-level competition brought together teams from universities across Indonesia and served as a platform for students to develop strategic ideas in response to challenges in financial management and digital services.

The IDSC competition was conducted in three stages. In the preliminary round, participants were required to solve a financial technology case study presented in the form of an infographic. This was followed by a strategic proposal development stage, in which teams were challenged to conduct in-depth problem analysis and formulate innovative and applicable solutions.

In the final round, Team Marsha presented their developed solution before industry practitioners and took part in a discussion session based on a new case study. At this stage, participants were assessed not only on the quality of their solutions, but also on analytical sharpness, logical reasoning, and their ability to communicate ideas in a systematic and convincing manner.

According to Darrell, the team identified several key issues that became the foundation for their solution formulation, including weak market positioning, ineffective customer acquisition and migration, as well as suboptimal monetization accompanied by business impact.

Based on these findings, Team Marsha formulated a strategic solution named W.I.R.A, an approach that integrates an AI assistant to create new added value. The solution was designed to address the identified challenges comprehensively through a measured, user-oriented approach.

In brief, W.I.R.A emphasizes artificial intelligence–based personalization, an end-to-end user experience, and a holistic monetization scheme. This integrative approach was considered effective in closing the gaps identified in the key issues and became one of the factors that led Team Marsha to secure a winning position.

In addition, during the advanced case analysis session, the team also highlighted challenges in the onboarding process for micro-enterprise users, as well as obstacles in reaching users across various regions. Based on this analysis, the team emphasized the importance of solutions that are simple, inclusive, and easily accessible to ensure optimal adoption of digital innovations.

Throughout the solution development process, Team Marsha faced several challenges, including balancing innovative ideas with feasible solutions, structuring complex concepts into a logical and easily understood narrative, and ensuring sufficient literacy before execution. These elements were crucial in keeping the proposed solutions relevant and realistic.

Amid their academic responsibilities, Team Marsha also shared tips on managing time between coursework and competition preparation.

“The principle is simple: complete academic obligations first, then continue with competition progress,” said Darrell.

With this approach, the team was able to dedicate time each day after classes to discuss and refine their solutions. According to them, the competition significantly sharpened their analytical and critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and boosted their confidence in public speaking, particularly in building strong presentation narratives.

For Team Marsha, achieving second place marked a valuable experience as their first competition victory. Despite a process filled with lengthy discussions, revisions, and repeated evaluations, the experience helped shape a more mature mindset for future case competitions.

“The most valuable lesson for us was learning how to identify the most critical pain points, formulate relevant solutions, and deliver our ideas with confidence,” he said.
