Soemardja Gallery Exhibited World Artists Artworks

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - As a college that uphold the pillars of art, ITB often organizes art exhibition that invites a lot of attention. For the third time, ITB through Soemardja Gallery in collaboration with the Embassy of Mexico in Indonesia and supported by the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID) presents an exhibition of sculpture by Jorge Marin. The exhibition, which was opened on Thursday (19/06/14) and will be closed on Wednesday (03/07/14) is titled "The Body as A Landscape". It presents eighteen unique human-shaped sculptures which are the work of Jorge Marin in last two decades. The event was officially opened by H.E. Melba Pria (Ambassador of Mexico in Indonesia).

"The collections are outstanding, made from exquisite pieces carved with bronze sculptures by an artist from Mexico, Jorge Marin. Impression created by the bronze that radiates through golden color presenting cosmic impression," said Melba Pria in the opening ceremony. Jorge Martin was the leading sculptor of Mexico with a unique sculpture work and create the impression of firm, solid, and presents a typical Mexican atmosphere through color.

Jorge Marin's works in this exhibition are of conventional sculpture. Bronze statue showing the figure shape and placed on the base. The work not only displays the results of detailed craftsmanship through mastery of technique, but also brings a blend of bronze impression featuring a blend of gestures, dynamic positioning, and flexible. "There is a dualism impression that glows through the statues, the firm impression and dynamism," added Melba Pria.

Jorge Marin's sculptures are allegories about man and any complexities in it which are illustrated by the subject that themed of balance, concentration, and meditation with the human body as its main axis. Jorge Marin is one of the main exponents in contemporary figurative art.

This exhibition is a rare opportunity, since usually the Jorge Marin's works are only displayed in the countries of America, Europe, and several Asian countries. For Indonesia, Soemardja Gallery was selected as a suitable place to show off the work of sculptor who has been working for twenty-five years in the field. "This exhibition is also a form of friendship between two countries through the principle of reciprocity better, as well as art has become evident that communicating effectively," added Melba Pria.
