BANDUNG, itb.ac.id-Recently, the development of software in Indonesia has been broaden. It is proved by the enormous amount of local softwares that were made by Indonesian programmers. In tune with the development of informatics insight in Indonesia, Division of Software Engineering and Data (DSED), School of Electro and Informatics (STEI) ITB held an international conference titled "International Conferece on Data and Software Engineering (ICoDSE) 2014". In the conference that was held on (26-27/11/14), ICoDSE was attended by researchers and professionals in software engineering and data. In the conference, they were asked to present and discuss the result of their researches regarding the mentioned fields.

ICoDSE that took place in Aula Timur ITB presented three keynote speakers who came from three countries which are Indonesia, Austria, and Australia. The first ICoDSE speaker was Adi Sasono from Coop Indonesia. Adi started the conference with a presentation titled "Information is Power: for What and for Whom". Besides, ITB and Coop also made cooperation by signing an MoU. The next speaker was Prof. Josef Kung from Johannes Kepler University of Linz, Austria. He brought a topic about "Trends and Techniques in Big Data Research". On the second day, ICoDSE presented Dr. Richard Lai from La Trobe University, Australia as the speaker with topic "Educating Students for Advancing Software Engineering Practices and Researches".

Authors of 68 papers that were selected by ICoDSE 2014 committee also came to the conference. Those papers had been through tight selection to be chosen from 130 papers that were sent from various countries such as India, Malaysia, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Australia, Belgia, Bangladesh, and Indonesia. Beside international conference, ICoDSE also held special session for students so that they could learn to do research and develop their knowledge. This session was an International Doctoral Symposium on Data and Software Engineering (IDoDSE) 2014. Attended by thirteen Indonesian master students, they presented proposals and result of their researches through poster and presentations.

Dr. Bayu Hendradjaya, chairman of ICoDSE 2014 stated that through this conference, DSED ITB planned to publish Software Engineering and Data internationally, with ITB as the initiator. Dr. Bayu added that DSED ITB are ready to help Indonesian government in the field of data processing as well as developing software for maritim, food, energy field.

What is Software Engineering?

Software is a group of commands that is executed by computer to process information. Software is considered as a note for computer to keep commands, documents, and any other files. Basically, software can not bet ouched nor seen physically, yet can only be operated. On the other hand, software engineering is a computer-science application to build an effective software and is related to software's production process. Software engineering is also related to the practice of software production. It is different with computer science which is a theory and methods that underlie the computer system as well as the software itself.
