The Message from the Governor of West Java on Public Lecture at SAPPD ITB National Seminar

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – The Governor of West Java, Bey Triadi Machmudin, S.E., M.T.,  delivered a public lecture at the National Seminar with the title of “Prospects for Indonesian Human Resources in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Contest and Sustained Development Towards a Golden Indonesia 2045.” This seminar was organized by the Master of Development Studies and Master of Tourism Planning within the School of Architecture, Planning, and Policy Development (SAPPD) ITB which was held on Friday (8/12/2023) at the Conference Hall, CRCS Building, ITB Ganesha Campus.

The material presented by the Governor of West Java titled “Commitment and Strategy of West Java Province in preparing Human Resources to support the Golden Indonesia 2045 Agendamau b.” He opened his lecture by explaining about the challenges and opportunities for Golden Indonesia 2045.

One of the main points that was highlighted is the demographic bonus of Indonesia and West Java. By having a population reaching 270.20 million in Indonesia and 48.78 million in West Java, making West Java the province with the largest population. This figure is dominated by generation Z (27.88%) and millennials (26.07%).

He also shared the lesson learned from Estonia regarding the digitalization of human resource development. He discussed E-Education as an educational Super App in Estonia known as PISA (Programme of International Student Assessment) which ranked first in Europe and ranked 5th in the world. For him, ITB is one of the well-known universities in Indonesia which has an enormous potential.

“Judging by the measures taken, we believe that ITB can play a role in creating and advancing the quality of Human Resources in West Java and Indonesia,” he stated.

His final presentation covered the strategies to build morally upright and competitive human resources in West Java. Consequently, the West Java Provincial Government has initiated the West Java Talent Management Program to prepare for the quality and competitive human resources workforce within the province.

He emphasized that the West Java Provincial Government has carried out a talent management program to ensure proper employee placement (the right man in the right place), transfers, rotations, performance-based promotions, and welfare, capacity development, and certainty of career progression.

He also mentioned the strategies to build better human resources in West Java province consist of four main pillars. The first one is Education and Culture, which covers equal quality and educational service with the help of the private sector, and building a strong foundation through early childhood education, digital literacy, and ICT education.

The second one is the enhancement of science and technology by increasing the capabilities of R&D human resources that align with present and future technological trajectories, involving the business world and universities.

The next one covers health aspects which includes improving the environmental quality and ensuring sustainable health services. Lastly, the employment sector highlights the development of Educational Super Apps, investment, and employment, as well as the importance of technology-based training centers.

He closes his lecture by advising the students and the young generations to take their studies seriously, gain more experience, and actively participate in activities both on and off campus.
