BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – University is a medium for education that produces excellent graduates. These graduates will then be the orientation of education medium such as ITB to do its vision and mission. ITB facilitates its students with a Career Center that prepares the career of its graduates and monitors the alumni. One of the methods it uses is giving references to students, their parents, lecturers, or other related bodies.

Dr. Eng. Bambang Setia Budi, S.T., M.T. as the president of Indonesian Career Center Network explained in Studium Generale on Wednesday (30/08/17) at Aula Barat that career is not only about the job and profession, but also about how to face the world after graduation. In line with the vision and mission of ITB, the performance of the alumni is expected to represent entrepreneurial university. The role of entrepreneurial university is based on the history of the former vision as research university. One of the cultures in analyzing a condition of a system is through study of data. This method is applicable to tracer study. Using questionnaire as referenced data, Career Center could collect data directly from alumni in 3 months interval.

From tracer study with correspondences from the alumni of the last two years, it is found that 62% of ITB graduates are workers, 5% are workers and entrepreneurs, 7% are entrepreneurs, and 26% are non-workers/continue their studies. ITB alumni track record shows impressive achievement. At least 11 ITB alumni have successfully built their start-ups in Indonesia. This has never been achieved by any other university in both Indonesia and the world. Therefore, the vision of ITB as entrepreneurial university can be achieved little by little. The result of a good tracer study could represent the real condition, so that the follow up will go right on target.
