BANDUNG, itb.ac.id-Three ITB Students won award in Tokyo Tech Indonesian Commitment Award (TICA) 2010. TICA is a competition for research and technology held by Tokodai Indonesian Students Association (PPI Tokodai), an association of Indonesian students undergoing the study in Tokyo Institute of Technology. The competition is a form of PPI Tokodai's commitment to Indonesian research and education.
The three students are Nur Ahmadi, Electrical Engineering 2006; Oka Mahendra, Material Engineering 2005; and Mohammad Ikhsan, Electrical Engineering 2007. Nur earned Golden Award Winner because his proposal is selected the top three, while Oka dan Ikhsan earned Finalist Award because their research proposal is selected the top ten.
Nation's Innovation
In his research proposal titled Implementation of Assertion Based Verification Method on Time Processing Unit (TPU) module of WiMAX Chipset, Nur talked about chip WiMAX making using specific verfication method. The Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) itself is defined as wide range and high speed nircable access.
"WiMAX is identical with Wi-Fi currently available in the market. But WiMax superiority lies in its range and access speed," explained Nur. "The number internet user in Indonesia always grows higher than 100% every year. With this, the increase of internet access quality is a potential effort," said Nur.
Meanwhile, Oka Mahendra's research proposal is titled Alumina-Supported ZSM-5 Thick Film Using Coal Fly Ash Precursor with Hydrothermal Method. He explained the usage of coal burning waste to yield zeolite ZSM-5 crystal.
"The crystal, eventually, can be turned into membrane surface for water filter and for preventing the hydrocarbon from turning into oil," said Oka, who happened to be the Minister of Community Development Kabinet Keluarga Mahasiswa ITB (ITB Student Body) for period 2008-2009. "There is also the possibility to avoid bacterial and virus growth, but the research has not yet been conducted," he explained.
The research proposal titled Development of an Interactive Touch Table that Supports Multi-person Data Interaction, made by Ikhsan and Amril Hidayat, Electrical Engineering 2007, adds to the list of innovations produced by Indonesian students.
On Monday (1/11/10), TICA committee granted the award for ten best research proposals. Three Golden Award Winners were from ITB, UGM, and ITS. TICA committee hopes that the event can trigger more student research in Indonesia.
