Two ITB Students Attend ASES India Regional Summit 2010

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Two delegates of ITB participated in ASES INDIA REGIONAL SUMMIT 2010 held on 22-28 August 2010 at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India. The delegation, Mohammad Iqbal (Regional and Urban Planning) and Alan Yudhahutama (Electrical Engineering), was supported by ITB and the Business and Industry Incubator ITB.

Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Society or ASES is an organization engaged in entrepreneurship, with its members consisting of student entrepreneurs from the Asia-Pacific region and the United States. It is based in Stanford University, California, an Ivy League university. The organization, standing for more than a decade, has opened chapters in 14 countries and they are all managed independently by student entrepreneurs from tens of universities.

ASES SUMMIT is a major annual event held by ASES. ASES SUMMIT is an event consisting of a discussion panel, seminar, workshop, pitching competition, and visits to companies varying from Fortune 500 to start-up companies. ASES SUMMIT brings together student entrepreneur delegated from ASES chapter countries selected through a rigorous process. Every year, ASES holds two SUMMITS, in Stanford University (The Stanford Summit) and in another country which has an ASES chapter (ASES REGIONAL SUMMIT).

The delegates are student entrepreneurs from various universities in countries in the Asia-Pacific Region, such as Singapore (NUS), Australia (Maquarie), Taiwan (National Taiwan University), Japan (Tokyo University), Indonesia (ITB), Malaysia (INTI), and of course the host country, India (IIT Madras, Bangalore, Chennai, MET, etc.) with a total of 50 participants.

The activities followed by the participants were seminars and workshops related to entrepreneurship with unique themes, such as "Marketing to the Poor", "Rural Innovation", and "Venture Capital". The seminars and workshops brought in Indian entrepreneurs from Kiruba Shankar (CEO of Business Blogging, Wikipedia Director), Manoj Gupta (Nexus Venture Partner), to Vinod Dham, former Vice President of Intel and called the "Father of Pentium".

After that, the delegates visited the Renault-Nissan factory and the Infosys headquarters in Bangalore. Aside from seminars and company visits, the participants also had the chance to get to know one another in the E-Pitch E-Competition, where all participants were divided into groups and competed to make a business plan, which was then presented to the others. The participants also gained many other interesting experiences, such as learning about the business and economic climate and about Indian culture.
