Vice Chairman of Indonesia KPK Delivered a Public Lecture on Anti-Corruption Education

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Corruption in Indonesia has become a common subject of discussion in the wider community. Rising cases of corruption are also making efforts to combat corruption more incentive to do. Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is a body set up in 2003 to address, prevent, and eradicate corruption in Indonesia. Located in the West Hall ITB, Wednesday (04/16/2014) the vice chairman of Indonesia KPK, Dr. Widjojanto, S.H., M.H. delivered a public lecture on Anti-Corruption Education through Studium Generale entitled "Problems and Corruption Eradication Effort".
Corruption is now more diverse and increasingly sophisticated occurred both among professionals, network capital, and political conspiracy. Prosecution of corruption cases is not only limited to arrest the suspect, but it must be done further action. Repression was due to corruption that increasingly well-organized crime committed by the perpetrator. "Corruption itself arises because of the problems in the system," said Bambang. System as a place to produce deviations should be controlled so that there will no paradigmatic mistakes.
Corruption is an unlawful act that caused harm to the country. According to the terminology, corruption or corruptus, it means all attitude and bad behavior, dishonest, and immoral aberrations. Losses and potential losses due to corruption in Indonesia according to the CPC Semester II in FY 2012 there were about 127,310 recommendations, or approximately 58.91% valued Rp 51.53 trillion than has been acted upon. In 2012, the Commission was able to save the country losses that could be qualified as non-tax revenue of Rp 121,655,680,319.00 stemming from the handling of corruption and graft.
Cases of corruption cannot be dealt entirely due to the limited number of law enforcement, the timing of the fast growing corruption, and the fact that corruptors have increasingly sophisticated their modes. The causes of corruption are low integrity, structural factors such as economic conditions which are not balanced, historical and political factors are dominated by the old elite, actor and decentralization by creating a new mode, the quality of regulation that does not have legal certainty, as well as law enforcement.
Bambang also explained that the quality of law enforcement in Indonesia needed to be improved. Jail for the corrupt cannot be made as a deterrent effect. "Fighting injustice with injustice handed to the court that creates injustice," Bambang added. Currently corruption is not only the procurement of goods and services, but has penetrated the natural resources sector. In addition, cases of corruption are also commonly found in financial services, tax, and banking.
People and law enforcement agencies are required to be more educated and they have to understand the map problem, be responsive, and continuously boost the competence and uphold the integrity of the conquest of corruption. Prevention and prosecution which are done by KPK includes non-cash payment, reporting LHKPN, and the seizure of assets owned by the corrupt. Community is also included e.g. applying anti-corruption values in the family. "Value must be embedded since childhood," Bambang lid.
