5 Works by ITB Visual Communication Design Students Selected for Bumilangit Exhibition
BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – The Visual Communication Design Program (DKV), Faculty of Art and Design, Bandung Institute of Technology (FSRD ITB), held an exhibition of illustrative works from the Illustrative Application course in collaboration with Bumilangit titled "Heroism in Visual Stories".
The exhibition features illustrations of 10 main characters from the classic Bumilangit Universe: Si Buta dari Gua Hantu, Gundala, Gondam, Sri Asih, Mandala, Tira, Virgo and The Sparkling, Aquanus, Maza, and Merpati.
Held at the Soemardja Gallery ITB (20/6/2024), the exhibition aims to present the perspectives and interpretations of Indonesian youth on the characters from the Bumilangit Universe. The exhibition showcases 41 works consisting of 3 continuous narrative scenes to illustrate how the younger generation translates, observes, and portrays the classic characters of Indonesian graphic novels.
Out of the 41 student works exhibited, 5 were selected to participate in an exhibition alongside Bumilangit in Jakarta.
In addition to the exhibition, a "Talkshow with Bumi Langit" was held discussing the world of creative illustrators in Indonesia and abroad. The talkshow featured renowned artists and pillars of Bumilangit, including Mansyur Daman, affectionately known as Pak Man, Rio Purbaya, Andy Wijaya Gredi WK, and Erwin Prima Arya.
Pak Man and his colleagues at Bumi Langit advised students that being an artist in the field of illustrative art comes with various challenges related to technology. Therefore, artists need to specialize in specific areas to remain competitive amidst technological advancements.
Following the talkshow, the top 5 works by students were announced, including:
- True Love of Mandala by M. Azka Arkanta (17422078), Ahmad Fadhlan S. (17422010), and Panji Yunan Alhakim.
- The Rise of Aquanus: Battle of The Kraken by Salma Nur Faizah (17422058), Benedictus Alfian W. (17422072), and Jeuhan Azura (17422054).
- Gondam has Fallen by Clara Adila M. (17422019), Kayla Davina H. R. (17422082), and Tamara Rachel P. (17422021).
- Flash from Mataram by Radhiyya Akbar R. (17422028), Ahnaf Setya E. (17422055), and Ilham Habib A. (17422074).
- Tira vs Citroen: Encounter of Two Dragons by Ibtisam Sabrina B. (17422001), Hana Kaori S. (17422033), and Bingala Aisha R. (17422011).
