BANDUNG, itb.ac.id — Chatleen Arcelia, a final-year ITB student of the Undergraduate Program in Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, won the main championship of Compounding Event Inter-Regional Competition 2022 organized by the International Pharmacy Students Federation (IPSF).
Held 3 months online throughout March until May, the peak event’s highlight on Thursday (19/5/2022) was stolen by Chatleen’s achievement, winning the competition with a study titled “Topical Formulation: Calamine Lotion” which represented Indonesia, Asian Pacific Regional Office (APRO), whereas the 1st and 2nd runner up were attained by students from Austria (EuRO) and Brazil (PARO) respectively. The Compounding Inter-Regional Competition is a pharmaceutical contest closely related to medicine formulation and concoction process. The topic of this competition was mainly pharmaceutical, especially concerning topical dosage in its skin-applied form, such as those used in creams or even lotions.
After participating, Chatleen expressed her hope to gain more experience and meet more opportunities to develop in the future. “I wanted to increase my experience through the championship and with all the time that remained, I took that jump,” asserted Chatleen.
The competition itself has quite the lengthy stage, starting with answering questions in the preliminaries to working on a case study and its presentation during the finals. Chatleen’s required preparation consisted of reviewing class material concerning pharmaceutical topics and pharmaceutical dosage technology. When asked for tips, Chatleen admitted her knowledge from previous experience. “My advice would be to find out the problems’ characteristics, how’d they look basically. Well, actually I’ve participated in another competition at the Asia Pacific scale so I do have some ideas,” explained Chatleen.
Chatleen continues, practicing presentation and actively searching for information to predict the questions asked during the Q&A are important aspects to be mindful of. In gaining knowledge, aside from class reviews, Chatleen also actively discusses the learning materials and exchange related experience with fellow peers from the same faculty.
