BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Department of Physics, ITB Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, in collaboration with the Association of Indonesian Physical Society and the Journal of Physics Indonesia organizes The 5th Asian Physics Symposium (APS) 2012. Taking place in East CC Gallery, the event was held on Tuesday to Thursday (10-12/07/12).

This annual event aims to provide a forum for communication among researchers working in the field of physics and applied sciences. A variety of recent research results will be presented at this event. This represents the development of physics and helps to determine the direction of future researches.

"Hopefully, through this activity, we can also enhance international cooperation in the field of research", said Dr. rer. nat. Sparisoma Viridi, Chairman of this event.

Ten Topics to Discuss

There are ten topics to be discussed. The ten topics are theoretical physics of high energy, material science and technology, biophysics and medical physics, nuclear physics, geophysics, computational physics, instrumentation and measurement, and physics education.

The participants shall submit their research related to the abovementioned topics. There were 108 participants from five countries in Asia who submitted their research and scientific work. The fve countries are Japan, India, Lithuania, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

The participants will simultaneously present their research in five different rooms. It is expected that participants can exchange ideas or gather inputs that support the advancement of their research. In addition students and the public also have the opportunity to see the presentation.

The review will be done toward the collected scientific papers. Selected papers will be published in the conference of American Institute of Physics (AIP). "On average, around 80 to 90% of the submitted papers passed," said Viridi.

Six International Speakers

Aside from seeing presentation from the researchers, the participants get the chance to listen to six international invited speakers. The six speakers are prominent researchers in their respective field. "They will share experience and motivation with the participants," explained Viridi.

The event seeks to facilitate meetings between young researchers and Indonesian students with expert researchers. "That also is our main objective in conducting the event," said Viridi.
