BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – The School of Life Sciences and Technology at Institut Teknologi Bandung (SLST ITB) welcomed three guest lecturers as part of the World Class University (WCU) SLST program. They are Prof. Yen-Wei Chu from National Chung Hsing University (NCHU), Dr. Cheng from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST), and Dr. Kai-Chiang from Taipei Medical University. The WCU SLST activities were held over a week in late September, specifically Monday-Sunday (23-29/09/2024).

This international collaboration is a crucial step in strengthening SLST ITB’s research network with global universities, particularly in biotechnology, health sciences, and technology, while also creating more opportunities for knowledge exchange among students and researchers in the future.

During the WCU SLST program, the three academics not only discussed research and development opportunities with SLST faculty and students, but also delivered guest lectures across various SLST study programs at both the Ganesha and Jatinangor campuses.

Prof. Yen-Wei Chu held a sharing session with SLST academics and graduate students regarding AIMIA, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Image Analysis, a technology that uses artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to convert visible light images into pseudo-multispectral data. This technology enables more accurate analysis of various conditions, from detecting potential cancer cells to examining the physiological condition of plants and identifying pests in a field.

The sharing session was met with enthusiasm from SLST ITB faculty and students. The application of AI in various biological research aspects, such as cancer detection technology, MRI, genome sequencing, and plant disease detection, can be implemented using AIMIA. During the discussion, Dr. Ramadhani Eka Putra, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., from the Natural Resource Management Research Group, expressed interest in collaborating on developing a pest detection system and agricultural land management.
