ITB and Hainan University MoU Strengthens Collaboration in Food Security, Climate Change, and Health

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and Hainan University (HNU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday (18/07/2024) in Rapim A Room, Rectorate Building, Jalan Tamansari, Bandung.

The MoU was signed by ITB’s Vice Rector for Finance, Planning, and Development, Prof. Ir. Muhamad Abduh, M.T., Ph.D., and Hainan University's Vice President, Mr. Gao Diagong.

The event was also attended by the Dean of School of Life Sciences and Technology of ITB, Prof. Endah Sulistyawati, S.Si., Ph.D., the Dean of the School of Pharmacy of ITB, Prof. apt. I Ketut Adnyana, M.Si., Ph.D., the Dean of Graduate School of ITB, Prof. Dr. Suprijadi, M.Eng., and the Head of International Collaboration Affairs, Andika Putra Pratama, MSM., Ph.D.

ITB and HNU signed the MoU for a five-year collaboration in various fields, including the exchange of faculty, researchers, and students through joint research activities, academic meetings, and the exchange of academic information.

In his speech, Prof. Abduh expressed gratitude and appreciation for this collaboration. He emphasized that future collaborations with Hainan University must be continuously pursued.

“With the scope of cooperation we have, we hope to collaborate even better in the future,” added Prof. Abduh.


Meanwhile, in his speech, Mr. Gao emphasized Hainan University's commitment to building stronger university partnerships. “Hainan University strives to build inter-university cooperation to strengthen partnerships, create closer collaboration, and build a mutually beneficial future," he said.

He believes that this cooperation will bring great benefits not only to both institutions but also to the broader community.

The cooperation aims to enhance the sharing of high-quality educational resources and run student exchange programs at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels.

ITB and Hainan University will also collaborate on research projects focusing on food security, climate change, health security, and marine science, with an emphasis on chemistry and chemical engineering. In addition, the two universities will hold various cultural activities to promote cultural exchange and build a high-level international cooperation platform for a mutually beneficial future.

The academic sectors overlapping between ITB and Hainan University include agriculture, forestry, and pharmacy. Both universities face similar challenges in these sectors, so this collaboration is expected to yield innovative solutions and joint research that can provide tangible benefits to both universities and the wider community.
