BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Commemorating 70 years of Chemistry Education in Indonesia, Chemistry Study Program of ITB held Open House, Workshop, and Academic Writing Competition (LKTI) on (11-12/08/17) at Kimia Building ITB, Jalan Ganesa. Many activities were held during the open house, such as the demo of Fun Chemistry, lab tour, and bazaar.
The open house had four age categories, from Play Group (PG) up to general public, to conduct chemistry demos in six laboratories using small kits. In Fun Chemistry, participants had to first sign up their group—5 person at minimum—with 1600 people from online sign up alone, but on the spot registration was also open. There was also glassware making demo that showed the making process of droppers, beakers, and other glassware.
The LKTI was participated by 68 participants, coming from senior high/equal teachers from 23 provinces in Indonesia. Five finalists then presented their works in front of juries and audiences on (11/08/17). The score was decided not only by the juries but also by the audiences.
“What interesting is that the 1st-3rd winners of LKTI will be granted master program scholarship from ITB and this is approved by the Rector,” said Aep Patah, Ph.D as Deputy Head Executive of 70 Years Chemistry Education Commemoration in Indonesia.
The workshop carried the theme “Chemistry Education and Teaching in High School/Equal for High School/Equal teacher in Indonesia”, with Dr. Muhamad Abdul Kadir Martoprawiro (Head of Chemistry Union Indonesia) and Dr. I Nyoman Marsih (Chemistry Lecturer of ITB) as speakers. Peak of the series saw family gathering for all ITB Chemistry Alumni on (07/10/17).
The theme is “Chemistry: envisioning life, the sense of the future” that aims to introduce the importance of chemistry in everyday life. “People in general see chemistry as dangerous (substances), and we want to change that paradigm,” said Irma Mulyani, Ph.D as the Head Executive of 70 Years Chemistry Education Commemoration in Indonesia.
