Three ITB SBM students winning the IYREF Business Case Competition

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Three ITB SBM students scored a milestone at the IYREF (Integrated Youth Renewable Energy Festival) BCC (Business Case Competition) held by ITB SRE (Society of Renewable Energy). The team named Gordat secured second place at the contest while receiving the title as the team with the best presentation.

BCC is one of the branch competitions held at the event. Bringing this year’s theme of the event “Accelerating Breakthroughs in Renewable Energy to Achieve Golden Indonesia 2045 Vision”, BBC’s theme is “Enhancing Sustainability in the Oil and Gas Industry towards Golden Indonesia 2045 Vision” considering the concept of sustainability must be put into consideration in industries especially oil and gas. Participants are expected to brainstorm ideas that can be implemented to bring positive output to the industries.

Participants were given a case related to the management of plastic waste from SLB (Schlumberger), a company providing oil and gas service. They must come up with a solution so that the generated plastic waste from SLB can be turned into something more beneficial for the company, community, and the environment despite the plastic itself made up of residual hazardous chemicals.

The Gordat team that consists of Muhammad Ardell Bagas Alfatih (19722194), Albert Lukas Pithel Hasugian (19722182) and Kirana Amanah Nisrina Jumarman (19722110) created the “Viridescent Initiative” as their answer to the plastic waste issue. Not only does their solution reduce the negative impact of the waste, but it also adds their value to build and improve the community around Palaran Base SLB. Their proposed solution proved their creativity and gave them the pass as one of the six teams that succeeded into the final round.

The BBC had taught the team many aspects of waste, such as its environment, consultation, and management. The three students were grateful to their mentors, Ivonne Qiu and Carissa Eukairin, for their guidance during their preparation. They also thanked ITB SRE for organizing the competition and SLB as the company that provided the case to be solved.

Despite being first-year students, the team’s determination and perseverance made them win the competition. The experience gained and the opportunities explored gave them the encouragement to commit themselves in elevating their skills in the future.

On another note, the team’s success in this competition is another display of students’ extraordinary potential and capability in facing challenges after challenges. Through their achievement, other students are hoping to be inspired by them and follow in their footsteps.
