BANDUNG, itb.ac.id — The Chemical Engineering Department of Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) hosted the International Collaboration Week 2024 from January 22 to 26, 2024. This event was part of the collaboration between the ITB’s Chemical Engineering Program and the University of Queensland, aimed at enhancing students’ knowledge of chemical engineering, chemurgical engineering, and food engineering.

The program involved 18 students from ITB, 17 students from the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, and 1 student from Toyohashi University of Technology, Japan. These students came from varying degrees of education.

This activity consisted of ITB campus tours, guest lectures, discussions on case studies, and visits to various places, including PT Pupuk Kujang in Karawang.

There were three guest lectures delivered by ITB lecturers. Given by Prof. Ir. Dwiwahju Sasongko, M.Sc., Ph.D., the lecture titled “Hybrid Coal Processing” discussed the current types and technologies of coal processing. The next lecture, “Renewable Energy from Biomass” by Dr. Carolus Borromeus Rasrendra, S.T., M.T., delved into the development of palm-derived fuel for domestic aviation in Indonesia. Lastly, Dr. Ir. Dianika Lestari, S.T., M.T. presented “Food Processing,” a lecture on how to reuse different types of food waste, from household to industrial ones.

Besides attending lectures, participants could implement their newfound knowledge in study cases to identify the potential of natural resources for Indonesia’s industry. Participants also spent time exploring Bandung while strengthening the relationship between the two universities.

Two participants from ITB, Morgan (13022004) and Reynard (13021068), stated that the excursion to PT Pupuk Kujang in Karawang was a memorable experience. During the visit, participants learned about the process and control system of fertilizer manufacturing. They even observed firsthand the industrial-scale equipment used at the plant.
