BANDUNG, itb.ac.id — As an opening to the university years, the 2022 ITB freshmen batch participated through a series of New Students Orientation (NSO) activities. One of NSO’s agenda being the introduction to student activity units in the Open House Unit (OHU).
All new students participated in this event online through the main website or live streaming on Youtube, with some student units showing offline performances during the demonstration session. Both methods were held during 27-28 of August 2022.
On Saturday, 27th August 2022, online OHU was held in an exhibition form, allowing interaction between the new students and unit committees through a centralized data on the website in a parallel manner. Firstya Maulida (Entrepreneurship 2023) and Elios Sanenda Sembiring (Industrial Engineering 2021) delivered the opening session of this event.
“The objective of OHU is to create an interactive space with the existing student units. We hope that each new students can choose a unit based on their interest and potential,” stated Manav Hardinata J.N. as the chief executive of Centralized Initial Regeneration (CIR) ITB 2022, the body overseeing OHU. After the opening session, students can freely visit unit interaction links through the main website. Each unit has a unique method to promote their activities. Some utilized Zoom meeting, Gathertown, Kumospace, and many more.
On the next day, OHU was held in the form of unit showcase with performances and presentations from individual units. This session was held hybrid, offline for committees and unit representatives, online for the students of 2022. There are units showing video recordings while some other held live performances in the Multipurpose CRCS ITB building. Every performing student activity unit have the opportunity to be interviewed by the master of ceremony as a promotional material for their next potential members.
There are at least six unit categories in ITB enlivening campus activities, including education, fine arts, religion, research, sports, and media from a total of 80 student units in ITB. Students are free to register in any of the unit member initiation programs. (Exhaustive list of Student Activity Unit can be accessed on https://km.itb.ac.id/ukm/).
Student participation in units, besides acting as a space to exert students’ hobbies, is also important in creating interfaculty relation. This process will develop students’ interpersonal communication with others from a different study background.
“Cool performances by the units, just a shame that sometimes there are connection issues,” remarked M. Adyatmoko Suryobhumi (FMAE 2022).
