BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - On Tuesday-Wednesday (30/09-01/10/13) a blood drive was held on Labtek XI building of SITH ITB. It was named Labtek Biru Blood Drive and held by the four student organizations on Labtek IX and X together with Indonesia Red Cross (PMI) of Bandung. The purpose of this event was to maintain the availability of blood supply in Bandung and to grow students' social sensitivity. It was also to keep the relationship among the four student organizations. There were 250 donors in two days of the event.

Labtek Biru Blood Drive was the social charity with the tagline: "Share the Red, Share the Smile" initiated by the student organization of Material Engineering, Biology, Meteorology, and Oceanography. "Each student organization has their own job to succeed Labtek Biru Blood Drive," Nur Aziz Nashirudin (Material Engineering 2011) said.

The blood drive was the first done by the student organizations in Labtek IX and X. However, Labtek Biru Blood Drive got wide enthusiasm from ITB's civitas academica. They came to donate their blood in order to help the people in need. It was proved by the success on reaching the target. "Before, we only expected 80 people per day, but in fact, there were 100 applicants per day," Aziz explained.

However, not all applicants could donate. Only 180 who could and donated in Labtek Biru Blood Drive. It was caused by some requirements that have to be fulfilled before donating blood, like ideal weight, above-standard hemoglobin, normal blood pressure, enough sleep, not in the period for girls, not consuming any medicine in the last day. "I could not donate because my hemoglobin was under the standard which is only 11.5 while the standars is 12.5. My blood pressure is low too, only 110/7," Amira Hana Humaira (Chemical Engineering 2011) said. Besides those reasons, the PMI staffs also said the O-blood type people were denied because the O-blood supply was already fulfilled.

To help people is not only by giving mone, food, clothes, and other physical materials. Blood drive is a simple way to share with the people in need. Moreover, there is a problem in some communities that blood supply is in high demand. "We hope that Labtek Biru Blood Drive can be held routinely to maintain the blood supply especially in Bandung," Aziz noted.
