BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Education personnel (administrative staff) have an important role in the implementation of academic activities at ITB. One of these roles can be seen in their duties as a laboratory manager or laboratory assistant. As a technical campus, ITB has many staff who work as laboratory assistants in faculties/schools.

Every year, the government always gives appreciation to outstanding educational staff. Rosydiati, laboratory assistant at the Natural Material Analysis Chemistry Laboratory at School of Life Sciences and Technology, won first place for Outstanding Educational Laboratory Institutions in the 2018 National Level Achievement Educator and Student Selection Program by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education.

Rosydiati achieved this achievement because she made an innovation in processing tissue culture waste into water fertilizer. The background for making this innovation is because it is based on many tissue culture media whose waste is disposed of. Because the waste media contains nutrients, it is feared that the waste will be moldy or have bacteria that can poison people or garbage workers when processing waste. So that she also processes the waste into liquid fertilizer independently.

To ITB Public Relations, Rosydiati said that she studied waste management independently and read existing literature. She performs the process of treating tissue culture media waste using bacteria. Apart from being used for personal use, the liquid fertilizers are also distributed to others. "The liquid fertilizer that I processed can also be used for hydroponic materials," she said, Monday (26/10/2020).
The process to get an award as an accomplished student is not easy. She first had to compete with other tendik in ITB. After becoming an ITB representative, she then had to present her innovative work to the six jurors at the The Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education. "I did not think I could win, whereas from other universities there are even better ones," said the recipient of a Masters scholarship from Dikti in the PASTI Scholarship Program. She graduated from ITB's Master Program in Chemical Engineering with cum laude honors.

She considered the achievement as a national level achievement team that was a form of motivation for other schools at ITB to always be enthusiastic about working, creating and innovating. For her, laboratory assistants at ITB have created a lot of works, for example in the form of journal publications with national and international accreditation. “The laboratory assistant also has a lot of her works, it's just that it doesn't show up. Through this appreciation, I hope that next year we will always be champions, and there will be other laboratory assistants who want to participate in events like this," she said.
