Strengthening Multidisciplinary Research, FAD ITB Inaugurated a Design Center

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FAD) ITB inaugurated a Design Center, on Wednesday (22/21/2022). This design center is expected to become the leading hub of innovation and knowledge downstreaming with a design thinking approach that can be easily related by the communities.

The design center which is located on the ground floor of the Center for Art, Design and Language (CADL) building is equipped with many facilities that promote collaboration such as a co-working space, a makerspace, a material library, which is the biggest material center in Indonesia, an amphitheater, and a gallery exhibition that exhibits many artworks from various experts. The committee also held several opening events such as a talk show with a theme of Design, Space, and Cultural Literacy; a Cultural Speech from the Rector of ITB; and some performances.

In his opening remark, the Dean of FAD, Dr. Andryanto Rikrik Kusmara, S.Sn., M.Sn., conveyed that the construction of this Design Center is an old dream from FAD to encourage collaboration and multidiscipline spirit in solving various world problems that have become more and more complex.

Dalam sambutannya, dekan FSRD Dr. Andryanto Rikrik Kusmara, S.Sn, M.Sn., menyampaikan bahwa pendirian Design Centre ini adalah buah dari sebuah cita-cita lama FSRD untuk memupuk semangat kolaborasi dan multidisiplin dalam menyelesaikan masalah-masalah dunia yang semakin kompleks.

"The spirit is very simple, we need collaboration and multidiscipline, just like what we see today, this exhibition is also a result of collaboration. This is not a study program collaboration, but a collaboration from experts, with various institutions from inside and outside the campus," said Andaryanto.

After expressing his gratitude to all the parties that were involved in the construction of this Design Center, Andryanto also said that in not so distant future this Design Center will be the host of many events, such as the second Science and Technology event, which is a cooperation with the Vice-Rector Office of Research and Innovation, a visit from the National Provincial Crafts Council (Dekranasda) West Java, and an event with a theme of residency and sustainable design that was proposed by a team from Singapore in cooperation with ASEAN.

"Let's use this collaboration facility together with the Design Center FAD ITB," concluded Andaryanto.
