Towards 100 Years of Technical Higher Education in Indonesia, ITB Organized National Seminar Development 4.0

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – To welcome the 100th Year of Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and commemorating 25th Dies Natalis of Master’s Program in Development Study of SAPPK-ITB, a national seminar Development 4.0: Meeting the Global Challenges was held at Aula Barat of ITB, Bandung on Monday (29/4/2019).
Chief Seminar Coordinator, Ir. Tubagus Furqon Sofhani said that the aim of the seminar is to study industry 4.0 phenomenon in the perspective of development process and formation of new human civilization.
He added that the seminar was attended altogether by national and regional policy makers, industry 4.0 practitioners, and researchers to share about their experiences regarding industry 4.0 in a wider perspective.
“Study on industry 4.0 in this seminar will be seen from various extensive dimension of development. That’s what it means by development 4.0., the emergence of new civilization driven by industry 4.0. Hopefully this seminar will enrich our perspective,” he said.
He said that the seminar is expected to give recent comprehension about the dynamics of new civilization of people of Indonesia and how a nation, market, and people respond to the phenomenon.
The seminar was opened jointly by Minister of Industry (Menperin) Airlangga Hartanto, Minister of Communication and Informatics (Menkominfo) Rudiantara, Rector of ITB Prof. Dr. Ir. Kadarsah Suryadi DEA., Regional Secretary of West Java Iwa Karniwa, and Chair of ITB Alumni Association in West Java.
Rector of ITB Prof. Kadarsah Suryadi, DEA., in his remark said that there are four challenges to face in the current era. The first is democratization of access to knowledge and information; the second is sophistication of digital technology in either daily life, security, or defense; the third is the raising mobility of information or commodity; and the fourth is the close supply and demand.
The rector conveyed those four messages based on his experience when attending a seminar in Europe on April 2016. One of the carried topic is about global challenges.
Further, the rector explained that in global challenges there will be new shape of market competition. On the other hand, employment will be affected by four prospects, such as economic fluctuation, technology, sociology, and demographic bonus.
“Departing from that problem, it should be covered with regulation. Many efforts have been done to re-regulate regarding industry 4.0. Hopefully in this seminar we can formulate things about new phenomenon,” he concluded.
Besides speeches from academicians and government officers, the seminar also saw keynote speech from Minister of industry Airlangga Hartanto and Minister of Communication and Informatics Rudiantara.
