Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering (FTSL) formerly the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Planning (FTSP), as a faculty composed of education majors who are in the neighborhood FTSP, namely the Department of Civil Engineering. This department is a department of education as a forerunner to the higher education institutions in Indonesia techniques – Technische Hoogesschool (THS) Bandoeng was established on July 3, 1920. In 1959, Technische Hoogesschool (THS) Bandoeng transformed into the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Indonesia below. In the Faculty of Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering are composed of portions of Civil Engineering and Geodesy Section. In 1962 evolved with the establishment of Sanitary Engineering Section.
In the restructuring of ITB in 1973, Section of Art and Design with Civil Engineering, Geodesy, Architecture, Planology, and Health Engineering are grouped into Faculty of Civil Engineering and Planning or Fakultas Teknik Sipil dan Perencanaan (FTSP) as one of the faculty at ITB. Section of Art and Design changed its name to be Department of Art and Design. In 1980 the Department’s designation was changed to the Study Program, so the moment it includes FTSP majoring in Civil Engineering; Architecture; Geodesy Engineering; Environmental Engineering; Planology Engineering, Study Program of Fine Art and Design. In 1984 the Study Program of Fine Art and Design was enhanced status to be Faculty of Visual Arts and Design.
