Bamboo-based Violin as an Effort to Find Originality

Andar stated that his bamboo-based violin design is an anticipation to the non-optimal development of bamboo-based music instruments in Indonesia. Even to date, there is still no effort in utilizing bamboo for stringed instruments. Based on that problem, Andar cooperated with Indonesia Bamboo Community designed bamboo-based violin using bamboo laminating technique. The technique is done in order to create vibrational tube with unique acoustic feeling.

There are two kinds of design that Andar created. The first design is bamboo violin with G key-shaped tube and the second design is a simple yet better vibration bamboo violin. To date, these two violins have been registered and physically and acousticly tested through several experiments in Product Design Laboratory of FSRD ITB.

Creating Product with Long Term Orientation

OIEA 2014 was held by cooperation from various Ministries, such as Ministry of Culture and Primary and Secondary Education, Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Ministry of Research, technology, and High Education, Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Indutry, and Ministry of Agriculture. M. Nasir also stated the importance of commercializing and industrializing the researches. The researchers should also avoid thinking of doing short-term research. "We also should avoid problems that may come up after a patent is granted, such as the research apparently had left behind, the research is too expensive, and how long the innovation will last. These are important for industrializing and commercializing the research's products", stated Nasir.
