BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Today, development in Indonesia is still highly depends on concrete system usage. The fact differs beyond the developed country where developments have already used steel in its structure. Dealing with the issue, PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa perform a seminar called “Cement Future Technology and Application”, on Thursday (7/8) in Galeri Arsitektur Room, SAPPK ITB. Present as the speaker was Dr Sri Roosyanto. Concrete is a composite construction material made of aggregate combination and fastener of cement. The most common form of concrete is portland cement, what consist of the mineral aggregate like sand and gravel, cement and water. The word cement comes from caementum, Latin for cutting into small unshaped parts. Among the first generation of cement is “semen abu” also known as portland cement. The characteristic is rather blue ash chromatic powder, formed of limestone with high calcium rate which processed in high temperature and pressured kiln. Portland cement commonly use as glue to plaster. Another type, oil well cement, is especially used in course of natural gas or petroleum drilling, either on-shore or off-shore. Mixed and fly ash cement is mixture of dusty cement with synthetic Pozzolan (fly ash), which is by-product of combustion coal that contains amorphous silica, aluminum oxide, iron oxide, and other oxide in any amount variation. This cement is used as the ingredients to make concrete, so that it become harder. PT. Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa is second largest cement producers in Indonesia. Indocement have 12 factories, eleven reside in West Java, and one in Tarjun, South Borneo.
