JATINANGOR, itb.ac.id - Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) actively participated in initiatives to enhance the business management skills of local community groups in the National Capital City (IKN) through the "Community Capacity Development Program by ITB Lecturer Team." The program took place in Bumi Harapan Village, Penajam Paser Utama Regency, East Kalimantan Province, from June to November 2023.

The Head of the Community Capacity Development Program, Dr. Ir. Mia Rosmiati, M.P., stated that the program was themed "Strengthening Community Group Business Management as a Locomotive for Urban Farming Development in the IKN Region." The primary objective of the program was to equip IKN residents with the skills to manage their businesses, particularly in the agricultural sector through urban farming.

"IKN is poised to become a metropolitan city. Hence, we are preparing local human resources capable of managing and utilizing the limited land around their homes," explained Dr. Mia Rosmiati.

The ITB Lecturer team collaborated with local residents to enhance their knowledge of business management, considered a key factor in running a successful and sustainable agricultural business. The focus was on strengthening community organizations and business systems, including cultivation planning for various commodities, planting patterns, product processing, and marketing.

This program demonstrates ITB's commitment to the IKN community, with the expectation that it will empower them to compete with workers from outside the IKN.

During the process, community engagement posed a challenge. However, the approach through "dasawisma" (community groups consisting of 11-20 houses) and community leaders proved to be effective. Consequently, there was a commendable level of community participation in the program.

"No matter how excellent a program we offer, it will not succeed without community and local government support. A key individual from the community is essential for easy coordination and program monitoring. Key figures include heads of RTs, village heads, and heads of community groups," emphasized Dr. Mia Rosmiati.

Four ITB students were actively involved in the program, making significant contributions in communicating and cooperating with the local community.

In terms of sustainability, support from the village government is crucial to ensure the continuation of the community service program. The agricultural products produced are expected to receive marketing support from the village government.

"With respect to the institutional system, we hope that each household will adopt the ITB concept. We plan to sell freshly picked vegetable tours. Hopefully, it will garner support from various parties," expressed Ito, one of the villagers.

The ITB lecturer team envisions that this program will serve as a future example adopted by many households, leading to increased community income and bolstering food security in the IKN region.
