BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - The Indonesian Institution of Physics Engineers (BKTF-PII) held a research webinar entitled “Benefit of Imaging Device in Medicine”. This webinar explained the technology and knowledge utilizing physics engineering for medicine, especially in the making of imaging devices.

The webinar material was delivered by a lecturer from Engineering Physics Instrumentation and Control Research Group, Dr. Vebi Nadhira, S.T, M.T, and was led and opened by the Head Lector of Engineering Physics Research Group, Ir. Edi Leksono, M.Eng., Ph.D., on Tuesday (25/5/2021).

Dr. Vebi opened her session by explaining the definition of imaging in medicine along with the existing methods. “Medical imaging is a several different technologies to image the human body in order to diagnose, disease and treatment monitoring, or treat a certain disease,” she said. There are two methods of imaging; videlicet direct method and indirect method.

There are several examples of technology which are included in direct imaging methods, including photography, moire, hologram, fringe, and stereo imaging.

Meanwhile, the indirect imaging methods include Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computed Tomography Scan (CT scan). “CT scan and MRI are included in indirect imaging methods in medicine, which the result could not be obtained directly,” she said.
Imaging devices in medicine gives a lot of benefits, such as disease screening, and identifying disease or early diagnosis.
