BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – A team consisting students of Engineering Management named Tubagus Yasser Muhammad, Faisal Rahmat Nuryanto, and M Naufal F Sahab won the 2nd place in Industrial Challenge (INCHALL) 2019 on 12th-16th April 2019 organized by Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS). The competition is an international event that carried theme “Lean Manufacturing to Achieve Cost Efficiency”.
“There was a challenge (on semifinal) of designing pistons quickly. That’s all (the hardest part) because we had never seen the tools before,” said M Naufal Sahab or Sahab.
Sahab also explained that on the final they were challenged to solve actual problems regarding the application of lean manufacturing of time efficiency and production cost in a big national company. With the knowledge they get from their study in Engineering Management, the team managed to solve the problems and it was well received. “We did not expect we can get that far,” said Sahab.
In ITB, Engineering Management (MRI) is a relatively new study program and was once incorporated in Industrial Engineering study program. It is notable that the team, named True Saji, was the only competing team that came from outside of Industrial Engineering. “Our solution to the problem (on the final) was also distinguishable (from other finalist’s) because we used MRI approaches that is not taught in Industrial Engineering,” explained Faisal, one of the team members.
Many lessons learnt by the team, one of them is the courage to be different. “We, since the beginning, were different. When in the beginning we were asked to make an introduction video to the team, we make it distinguishable from other (videos). That was what make us memorable for other people,” concluded Faisal.
