ITB Student Team won first place in the 2023 Petroleum Integrated Days (Petrolida) Case Study Competition

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – The ITB Student Team won first place in the 2023 Petroleum Integrated Days (Petrolida) Case Study Competition held by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) ITS Student Chapter and Pertamina EP Cepu.

This competition is a platform for undergraduate students to demonstrate critical thinking skills, problem-solving, teamwork, and competency in solving complex problems related to the oil and gas industry.

The team consisted of Abdurrahman Sudais Al-Gifari (Bioenergy and Chemurgical Engineering 2020), Acyuta Hafizh N. P. Jr. (Chemical Engineering 2020), and Eva Monica Anandhita (Chemical Engineering 2020). Several Chemical Engineering lecturers were also involved in providing method directions, especially regarding the practicability and waste management components.

With the theme "Enhancing the Suitable Production to Embrace Energy Security", the case study in this competition would provide a solution to increasing the oil barrel production to reach the target of 5000 Barrels of Oil Per Day (BOPD). In addition, participants were asked to evaluate the risks associated with hazards in the field.

The competition was held from 31st March to 20th May 2023. The team began preparations by going deep into oil and gas industry research from various references, studying methods and analysis to evaluate risks in the field, and brainstorming to reach the best solution.

They also implemented several innovations such as EOR, IOR, artificial lift, drilling methods, decarbonization plans, and others.

In the process, the team divided roles among each other, starting from analyzing the production rate, green energy, geography, well operating conditions, safety, and project schedule, to economic analysis.

However, along the process, Eva, one of the team members, admitted that she had quite a hard time managing her time. This was mainly due to the competition coinciding with the Final Semester Examination (UAS). “There was time sacrificed for learning. However, in the end, all our sacrifices were paid off,” Eva said.

Eva also provided tips for students regarding priority and time management. On the other hand, Sudais, another team member, also gave a message to students who are also currently taking part in competitions or other activities outside of lectures.

"Apart from that, pray a lot and ask your parents for their blessings," Sudais added.
