ITB Team Advance to International Petrobowl Championship

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – ITB is one of five best teams in Petrobowl Asia Pacific Regional Qualifier (APRQ) on (25-26/07/17) at Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), Malaysia. The team is consisted of Kevin Tja (Petroleum Engineering 2013), Gitani Tsalitsah Dahnil (Petroleum Engineering 2013), Adnan Syahrul Ramadhan (Petroleum Engineering 2013), and Wingky Suganda (Petroleum Engineering 2014). Along with the other four teams, they won APRQ and therefore will represent Asia Pacific region in International Petrobowl Championship on (8-11/10/17) in San Antonio, Texas, USA.

Petrobowl Championship is an annual, international competition held by Society of Petroleum Engineering (SPE). It is held as a part of SPE’s Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) where 32 teams from all over the world will compete in quiz competition to test their comprehension in Petroleum-related subjects, both technically and non-technically.

APRQ aims to select the best five teams from Asia Pacific to compete in International Petrobowl Competition. The first day saw technical meeting that explained the technical aspect of the competition. The competition—consisting of preliminary round, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final—was participated by 21 team from Australia, Bangladesh, China, India, Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Fortunately, ITB team could go straight to the round of 16 because ITB won the 1st place in the last Petrobowl APRQ. In Round of 16 and Quarter-finals, ITB surpassed teams from Riau Islamic University and UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta to advance to the semi-finals.

“Preparation for International level start with division of subject that each member has to grasp. Then, there will be intense practice for about two months before our departure. For the shortcomings and evaluation from previous competition, we will work on it for the next two months,” revealed Gitani about their preparation for International Petrobowl Competition.
